What a wonderful day of knotting, planting, and connecting at our very first Rooted & Twined Workshop!

Hosted in collaboration with Blueberry Hill Solutions and SofiArte Macrame, this unique experience invited participants to reconnect with nature through the soothing rhythm of knots and the nurturing act of planting.

The morning was all about slowing down, creating something meaningful, and sharing good energy in a beautiful green space in Buccleuch, Johannesburg.

A Morning of Creativity & Calm

The workshop began with a hands-on introduction to the art of macramé. Using soft 4 mm cotton twine and wooden rings, participants learned the fundamental knots — the Square Knot and the Gathering Knot — to create their very own macramé plant hangers. Under Sofia’s gentle guidance, everyone discovered the joy of working with their hands, tying each knot with intention and flow.

Halfway through, we enjoyed a lovely coffee break prepared by Mariska, filled with freshly brewed coffee, delicious treats, and great conversations. It was the perfect pause to recharge, connect, and share a few laughs before returning to our creative flow.

Once the plant hangers were complete, the group moved into the second part of the experience — potting their own lush indoor plants. Mariska and Phil from Blueberry Hill Solutions led this grounding activity, sharing practical planting techniques and valuable care tips. Each participant took home a beautiful Heartleaf Philodendron, chosen for its trailing elegance and easy care — a perfect green companion for the new handmade hanger.

More Than Just a Workshop

Rooted & Twined was about more than crafting and planting — it was about connection.

Laughter filled the air as new friendships formed over shared creativity and a love for nature. From beginners to seasoned makers, everyone left with a sense of pride and peace, carrying home their handmade plant hangers and thriving little plants as a reminder of the morning’s magic.
